Alex Muyl was once again a fixture in Nashville's lineup, consistently doing the under-the-radar work that made the rest of the team tick.

Muyl finished the 2024 campaign on a hot streak, with his five goals the most of his career. While that new-found attacking prowess didn't carry over into 2025, the former New York Red Bull maintained his stranglehold on the lineup, playing in 40 of Nashville's 42 matches in all competitions and playing the seventh-most minutes of any outfield player.

Typically operating on the left of BJ Callaghan's 4-2-2-2 formation, Muyl shifted into a more central role in the playoffs, when Nashville used a 4-3-3 defensive shape. His work rate consistently opened up space for the rest of the attack, and allowed others freedom to get forward, knowing that Muyl would cover.

The only knock on his performance was the lack of goals. With Sam Surridge and Hany Mukhtar carrying the full weight of Nashville's attack, the 'Yotes needed one of the wingers to step up their goal contributions, and Muyl wasn't able to make much of an impact in front of goal.

It wasn't an eye-catching season in terms of stats, but Muyl remains a crucial complimentary piece for this team. The simple fact is that they've been much better with him on the pitch than without for the past six years.

Moment of the season

Muyl's lone goal of the campaign came early, finishing off a good passing move with a composed shot under the 'keeper.

Looking ahead

Nashville will add competition on the wings, and are will heavily prioritize adding more goal threats. For Muyl, who has scored just 23 goals in 290 MLS appearances, this might come at a reduction in playing time.

Still, Muyl has maintained his starting spot for six years under three coaches. He'll still be heavily involved for Nashville next year, regardless of who they bring in.
