On Thursday, Major League Soccer announced details for the 2027 MLS Sprint Season, set to take place in the spring of 2027 ahead of the league's first summer-to-spring schedule, which will begin in July 2027.
14-match Sprint Season will bridge the gap
The 2027 Sprint Season will kick off in February 2027, with each team playing 14 regular-season matches between February and April. These matches will all be intra-conference, with each sides playing seven at home and seven on the road, and facing each opponent only once.
The MLS Cup playoffs will be held in May 2027, with the top eight teams from each conference qualifying for the playoffs. The bracket will be entirely single-elimination.
The 2027 Sprint Season will determine qualification for the 2028 Concacaf Champions Cup and 2028 Leagues Cup.
The full 2027 Sprint Season schedule will be announced in the coming months.
New summer-to-spring season to kick off in July 2027
The new calendar format will officially begin in July, with MLS playing a full regular season schedule. Under the new format, the MLS Cup Playoffs will wrap up in May 2028.
The league will also take a winter break from mid-December to early February, in which no league matches will take place.
