NASHVILLE, TN - Nashville SC announced on Tuesday that midfielder Matt Corcoran has been loaned to Rhode Island FC of the USL Championship. While the loan extends to the end of the 2025 season, Nashville have the right to recall Corcoran at any time.
This loan opportunity will help Matthew get more meaningful minutes to hopefully help him stay sharp as we prepare for a critical stage of the year for both club and country. We look forward to him returning primed and ready to help us during the stretch run of the season.”
– Nashville SC President of Soccer Operations and General Manager Mike Jacobs.
Corcoran, 19, was signed by Nashville ahead of the 2025 MLS season after two seasons with Birmingham Legion FC. The FC Dallas product came to Music City with over 50 appearances at the senior level. With Nashville, he's played 524 minutes in 10 matches (five starts), adding three assists in all competitions. Corcoran recently scored in Nashville's 2-2 draw with Aston Villa.

In Rhode Island, Corcoran will be reunited with head coach and general manager Khano Smith, who coached Corcoran in Birmingham from 2022 to 2023.
“Matthew is a talented, young midfielder who has high quality and vision in possession,” Smith said in a statement. “His ability to read the game will add an extra dimension to our team as we move into a crucial stretch of the season.”
Jacobs statement makes it clear that this is intended to be a short-term loan, with Corcoran returning before the end of the season. Minutes have been limited for the youngster, falling behind Eddi Tagseth, Patrick Yazbek, Gastón Brugman and Bryan Acosta in the pecking order.
As Nashville head towards the playoffs, and Corcoran attempts to make the roster for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in late September, getting him meaningful minutes makes sense for all parties.
