Nashville SC miss the playoffs for first time in club history. What’s next?

Nashville SC will miss the playoffs for the first time in club history.

DC United’s 2-1 win over New England Revolution on Saturday night officially eliminated the Coyotes from playoff contention. It’s the first time Nashville SC have ever missed the playoffs, going all the way back to their first season as a professional club in the USL Championship in 2018.

2024 has been the worst season in Nashville’s history by a significant margin. Gary Smith, the first coach ever hired by the club, was fired in May after winning just three of 12 matches to start the year. When Smith left, Nashville sat in 10th place in the Eastern Conference, tied on points for the final playoff spot with 1.17 points per game. Since his firing, Nashville have slipped even further, winning just five of their remaining 20 matches and earning a paltry 1.05 points per game.
