NASHVILLE, TN – On Wednesday, Nashville SC defender Taylor Washington announced his retirement from professional soccer at a special ceremony at Geodis Park.

Washington, 32, is the sole remaining member of Nashville's USL team. The Sommers, New York, native was one of the first players signed ahead of the 2018 season, their first as a professional club. Washington was later one of four players signed from the USL side ahead of their 2020 MLS expansion season, and has remained a stalwart for six seasons.

In the MLS era, Washington was a fixture in Nashville's squad, making 99 appearances in all competitions, and appearing in 190 of 199 match-day squads prior to an MCL injury which has kept him out of action since May 6.

Washington retires as the all-time leader in appearances for Nashville, playing 166 times for the club.

In addition to his role on the pitch, Washington has had a unique impact in the community off the field. Named the club's Humanitarian of the Year for five consecutive seasons, he's been an ever-present with organizations like the Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, Dominic's Toy Chest and more, spending countless hours volunteering his time to better the city of Nashville, always quick to share his faith.

As a result of his longevity and his whole-hearted embrace of Nashville, Washington developed a unique relationship with the fans. While not one of the first names on the team sheet – 18 players have played more minutes since 2020 – he remains a fan favorite. Always smiling and eager to chat with the supporters, Washington is a throwback to a time when the team was a much more organic, grassroots organization, a time when supporters felt uniquely a part of the team.

Throughout his time in Nashville, Washington has embodied every value the club has preached. Always available and ready to contribute however he is needed, both on and off the pitch. Humble, welcoming, and approachable. Giving everything he had whenever he stepped foot on the pitch.

There are many players who have become stars in Nashville. Few will ever be as dearly loved by the city as Taylor Washington.
