Nashville SC are set to host the Philadelphia Union in the US Open Cup semifinals.

The Union took down the New York Red Bulls 3-2 in their quarterfinal match on Wednesday night, rescheduled after their match on July 9 was delayed due to weather.

With the match tied 2-2 late in the second half, defender Olwethu Makhanya slotted home a rebound from close range to send the Union through to the semifinals.

The semifinal match is set to be played on Tuesday, September 16 at Geodis Park.

Nashville have beaten the Union twice this season. They made an early statement, winning 3-1 in Philadelphia back in March and completing the sweep at Geodis Park in July, with Hany Mukhtar scoring a last-minute penalty kick to propel the 10-man Coyotes to a dramatic win.

The Union have never won the US Open Cup, losing in the finals three times between 2014 and 2018. Nashville SC head coach BJ Callaghan was an assistant with the Union during that period.

Nashville SC have never won a trophy as a club. A win in the Open Cup would make them the first professional team from Tennessee to win silverware in any sport.
