NASHVILLE, TN - On Friday, Nashville SC midfielder Matthew Corcoran was selected to the USMNT FIFA U20 World Cup roster when head coach Marko Mitrović named his 21-player roster for the tournament.

Corcoran, 19, was signed by Nashville ahead of the 2025 season. He's played 530 minutes in 10 appearances so far this season, delivering a pair of assists in a 2-2 draw with New York City FC and scoring in a friendly match against Premier League side Aston Villa.

“It is always a big honor for me to represent my national team on a big stage and in a big tournament,” said Corcoran in the club's press release. “I’m thankful for the coaches for believing in me, and I’m just really excited to get there to compete and hopefully bring back a trophy.”

Corcoran was sent to the USL Championship for a short-term loan earlier this summer, where he played five matches for Rhode Island FC in a bid to give him consistent minutes ahead of the USMNT U20's pre-World Cup training camp. Nashville SC head coach BJ Callaghan has said before that Nashville make it a priority to support players with their national teams.

“We are proud of Matthew for his selection to the U-20 World Cup team,” said Callaghan in the statement. “His consistency, competitive spirit, and being a great teammate have earned him this opportunity, and we can't wait to see him represent Nashville and the United States on the world stage.”

The USMNT will kick off their World Cup campaign on Monday, September 29 with a group stage match against New Caledonia. They'll round out their group stage against France (October 2) and South Africa (October 5). All group matches will be shown on FS1 or FS2 in English and Universo or Telemundo in Spanish. Should the US advance, Corcoran could be on international duty through the final on October 19.

18-year-old homegrown defender Chris Applewhite will also join the the squad as a pre-tournament training camp player, helping the squad prepare for their group stage.
