Nashville SC Supporters' Shield clinching scenarios

Nashville could officially clinch the Supporters' Shield with wins against Sporting KC on Wednesday and San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, as well as Vancouver Whitecaps dropping points in just one of their next two matches (at St. Louis City and Austin FC).

Even if Nashville drop points, they could still clinch. Here is the full list of clinching scenarios.

How Nashville SC can clinch the Supporters' Shield in their next two games

Nashville SC (63 points, 19 wins) host Sporting KC on Wednesday and visit San Jose on Saturday. Total wins is the first tiebreaker. Each rival column shows the most that club can take from its next two games while still being shut out.

Ceilings are current points plus 3 for every game left (standings as of Oct. 13). If a rival would finish level with Nashville SC on both points and wins, goal difference decides, so that case is treated as not clinched. Nothing on Wednesday can clinch it on its own; Saturday night is the earliest.

Sporting KC snapshot

Now led by former Chicago Fire head coach Raphaël Wicky, Sporting KC travel to Geodis Park in search of crucial points as they fight to stay mathematically alive in the Western Conference playoff race. SKC showed plenty of attacking firepower in a wild 3-3 draw with Portland over the weekend, but defensive consistency remains a concern for the visitors.

Through 28 games, Sporting have conceded a shocking 68 goals. Their 2.43 goals conceded per game is the second-most in league history, and they're 10 goals away from tying the single-season record for the league's worst defense.

"Injuries have decimated the defense," KC Soccer Journal's Chad Smith said. "Even when they are healthy though, there is a lack of structure that may be coming from Wicky."

New signing André Luiz has looked like a star in his first few months with the club. The 24-year-old winger was signed for a club-record $22 million, and has logged seven goals and an assist in his first seven matches in MLS. With Canadian international Stephen Afrifa ahead of him, Sporting have a duo who are capable of causing problems in the open field.

Sporting KC head into the match with just 22 points from 28 matches. Nashville have 63 points. The 41-point gap between the two sides is the second-largest points gap between opponents in MLS history, behind only Red Bull New York (62) and San Jose Earthquakes (20) on October 6, 2018.

Nashville SC snapshot

Fresh off a statement 4-1 victory over Austin FC at Q2 Stadium, Nashville SC return to Music City riding the best 28-match start in MLS history with 19 wins, 63 points, and a +38 goal differential. BJ Callaghan's side sits atop the Supporters' Shield standings and has already set a single-season club record for goals scored in a regular season.

The Boys in Gold have displayed relentless attacking flexibility in recent weeks. Hany Mukhtar enters Wednesday night in blistering form with 14 MLS goals on the year, including four in his last three matches, while Sam Surridge (16 goals) provides a constant direct threat.

Nashville's width and depth have also begun firing on all cylinders, highlighted by Elias Saad notching his first career MLS goal against Austin while operating as a dynamic 1v1 threat opposite creator Cristian Espinoza. Meanwhile, Reed Baker-Whiting opened the scoring at Q2 Stadium as he continues to thrive across dual-flank roles, and impact reserve Shak Mohammed added a goal and an assist in the 4-1 statement win.

Supporting that frontline surge in the engine room, Matthew Corcoran and a fully healthy Patrick Yazbek offer elite press-resistance and defensive coverage.
Defensively, goalkeeper Brian Schwake and center-back anchors Maxwell Woledzi and Jeisson Palacios (who recorded his career-high sixth assist in Austin) have formed the stingiest backline in Major League Soccer.

With incredible momentum and a virtually unblemished home record at Geodis Park, the 'Yotes look positioned to dictate tempo early against Sporting KC and score often.
