New York snapshot

The Red Bulls come to Nashville in desperate need of a win. After a 3-2 loss to New England on Wednesday, they have no margin for error. A loss to Nashville along with a Columbus Crew win over DC would officially end things for the Red Bulls, who can also be eliminated with a draw and several other results in the Eastern Conference.

It's been a mixed bag of results under head coach Michael Bradley, who is in his first year as the Red Bulls manager after a long and distinguished playing career. Unsurprisingly for a coach who got his start managing their reserve team, he's continued to give young players significant minutes. Teenagers Julian Hall and Adri Mehmeti have been two of the league's best, while 21-year-old midfielder Ronald Donkor (suspended on Sunday for yellow card accumulation) leads the team with 11 assists and has kept captain Emil Forsberg out of the lineup.

Like the Philadelphia Union, the Red Bulls are one of the most press-heavy teams in MLS – according to Futi, those two sides emphasize pressing more than anyone else in the league. Nashville really struggled to deal with the Union in the opening 30 minutes, nearly getting caught in possession several times and being forced to go direct to get out of pressure.

This is essentially a playoff game for a Red Bulls side who have historically been incredibly difficult for Nashville to beat. Don't overlook them on Sunday simply because of their position in the table.

Nashville SC snapshot

Head coach BJ Callaghan rotated his side heavily against the Union, making five changes to the side that officially clinched the Shield in Montréal. While the move made sense after trips to Montréal and San Jose the week prior, as well as the emotions of winning silverware, it certainly played a part in Nashville's dropped points.

The 'Yotes looked incredibly flat until key players like Hany Mukhtar, Sam Surridge, and Andy Nájar entered the match in the second half. Against a less-than-stellar Union defense, they managed zero shots and just two touches in the penalty area in the first half.

Nashville can't afford to do this again. For starters, they're still chasing the single-season points record, needing at least four points (a win and a draw) in their final two matches to eclipse Inter Miami's 74-point record.

Secondarily, no one in the Nashville organization wants to celebrate their Supporters' Shield win after dropping points at home. Grabbing three points and a record-breaking 15th home win (and maybe a record-tying 17th clean sheet) would exponentially increase the vibes for what should be one of the more special afternoons in club history.
