Nashville SC have submitted a bid for defender Maxwell Woledzi from Norwegian club Fredrikstad FK, according to The Athletic's Tom Bogert.

Woledzi, 24, is a product of Ghana's famed Right to Dream academy. He made the move to Scandinavia in 2019, joining FC Nordsjælland's academy, where he made his senior debut in 2020. After a short stint with Vitória SC's reserve team in Portugal, he joined Fredrikstad in the Norwegian top flight in 2023.

With Fredrikstad, Woledzi has been a fixture in the lineup, making 84 appearances in all competitions. In the 2024-25 campaign, he made 29 appearances, starting all but one of their league matches. Woledzi helped Fredrikstad to their first Norwegian Cup win in 18 years and earned a spot in the Eliteserien Team of the Year.

Woledzi's contract expires at the end of the 2026 season. He was reportedly the subject of transfer interest from the Turkish top flight last summer, but remained with Fredrikstad.

Nashville SC have targeted players from Scandinavia in recent windows. After signing Hany Mukhtar from Brøndby IF in Denmark ahead of their 2020 expansion season, they've revisited the north of Europe, bringing in Patrick Yazbek (Viking FC - Norway), Eddi Tagseth (Rosenborg BK - Norway) and Ahmed Qasem (IF Elfsborg - Sweden) within the last 18 months.

Nashville may have a significant hole to fill in defense this winter. Club captain, two-time MLS Defender of the Year, and five-time Best XI defender Walker Zimmerman is out of contract at the end of the season. Currently on a Designated Player deal, Zimmerman is highly unlikely to resign in Nashville as a DP.

If he departs for a better offer in free agency, Woledzi could be part of the plan to replace him.
