Nashville SC midfielder Eddi Tagseth will be miss Saturday's match against DC United. Tagseth picked up his fifth yellow card of the 2025 season, and will serve his single-match suspension this weekend.
Tagseth picked up four yellow cards in Nashville's first eight matches of the season, putting him on the cusp of a suspension early in the year. However, he managed to go nine games without another booking, which reduced his accumulation by one card for purposes of a potential suspension, according to league rules. With yellow cards in each of Nashville's last two games, though, he'll sit out tomorrow's match.
"He was up to yellows earlier in the season and got good behavior, so we know these things are coming. We're prepared for it," said head coach BJ Callaghan. "The guys are prepared to step up. We see that each and every week with our team."
MLS yellow card suspension rules
According to the league rules, players are automatically suspended for a game upon receiving five yellow cards in a single season. After the first suspension, the threshold drops to three yellow cards before another suspension.
- Player accrues five yellow cards: $250 fine and a suspension from his next MLS Regular Season match.
- Player accrues an additional three yellow cards (eight total): $500 fine and a suspension from his next MLS Regular Season match.
- Player accrues an additional three yellow cards (11 total): $750 fine and a suspension from his next MLS Regular Season match.
- Player accrues an additional two yellow cards (13 total): $1,000 fine and a suspension from his next MLS Regular Season match.
MLS also implements a "good behavior incentive", whereby a player can reduce their yellow card accumulation total by one card for every five matches in which they appear without a card. Tagseth was one match away from wiping another card off his tally.
