Nashville SC exercise buyout of Tyler Boyd's contract

NASHVILLE, TN – Nashville SC have exercised a buyout on the remaining portion of Tyler Boyd's guaranteed contract after the forward was claimed on waivers by Los Angeles FC.

Boyd, 31, was waived by Nashville last week after missing over a year with a torn ACL. Per MLS rules, once claimed on waivers, clubs can negotiate a new contract with the player for at least the senior minimum salary ($104,000 in 2025), with the former club responsible for the difference.

Boyd leaves Nashville after two seasons

Boyd's guaranteed salary was $1,105,000 last season, the second-highest paid non-Designated Player on Nashville's roster, behind only Hany Mukhtar, Sam Surridge, Walker Zimmerman and Gastón Brugman.

Depending on his new terms with LAFC, Nashville could be on the hook for a sizable amount, potentially $1 million. Using one of their two permitted annual buyouts removes that amount from Nashville's salary budget charge, whereas previously it would count towards the cap.

Buying Boyd out allows him to earn his previously negotiated salary while getting a fresh start with LAFC and returning to Los Angeles, a city where he spent the 2023 season with the Galaxy. It also frees up a major amount of Nashville's cap, allowing them to reinvest elsewhere in the squad.
