Nashville SC forward Warren Madrigal has been dropped from the Costa Rica national team training camp due to disciplinary issues. Costa Rica were set to play a pair of friendlies against Columbia (June 1) and England (June 10).
Days after Alajuelense midfielder Alejandro Bran was sent home from camp, Madrigal and Kenneth Vargas were also set home, with the Costa Rican federation citing disciplinary issues in a press release:
The Costa Rican Football Federation (FCRF) reports that the coaching staff of the National Team has decided to exclude players Kenneth Vargas and Warren Madrigal from the current training camp.
The decision follows established guidelines for all members of the national teams.
The FCRF reiterates that discipline and respect for the rules are fundamental pillars in all our national teams. These values are an essential part of the responsibility involved in representing the country.
There are varying reports about what exactly led to their dismissal, but it's not the first time that Bran or Vargas have had disciplinary issues. The two were involved in an incident in March. Both Alajuense players were fined and dropped from the first team, sent to train with the U21s. Bran returned the first team in early April, while Vargas returned a week later.
On Tuesday, after the latest incident, Alajuense announced that both Bran and Vargas have been released from the club.

The latest incident involved Bran's vehicle being hit by gunfire after an alleged conflict near a bar in San Pedro, Costa Rica, during the team's training camp. Costa Rican outlet La República reports that other players were present, although their names have not been listed publicly.
This is the first time Madrigal has been involved in a disciplinary issue of this kind. The 21-year-old has been capped 28 times by his country, scoring seven times. In his first season with Nashville, Madrigal has been a breakout star, logging five goals and four assists in 21 matches, the third-highest scorer on the team.
Nashville SC and Major League Soccer are currently on a break for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Boys In Gold won't play another competitive match until July 17, taking on Atlanta United at Geodis Park.
