It’s official: The MLS calendar as we know it is soon-to-be history.

On Thursday, Major League Soccer owners voted to radically overhaul the league’s schedule, flipping from the traditional spring-to-fall format to a European-style fall-to-spring calendar beginning in 2027. Under the new format, the season will kick off in mid-July and crown a champion in late May, with a long winter hibernation from mid-December to early February.

The move is set to sync the Major League Soccer calendar with top leagues around the world

In the simplest terms, the league is trading regular season matches in May, June, and early July for games in October, November, and early December. The implications for Nashville SC, on the pitch, in the stands, and for the business operations at GEODIS Park, are massive.

The schedule shift also changes who Nashville SC will compete with for attention. October through December home matches will see the Boys in Gold going head-to-head with the Tennessee Titans, Vanderbilt football, and even the start of the Predators’ season.
