Montréal snapshot

It's been a season to forget for CF Montréal, who sit dead last in the Eastern Conference and are only three points above the league's last team, Sporting Kansas City.

Assistant coach Philippe Eullaffroy became interim head coach after the team fired Marco Dondel in April. The fate of the Impact, however, didn't change as both coaches struggled to find consistency in results and performances.

Montréal have two wins in their last 13 matches in all competitions. To make matters worse, the Quebec outfit lost the Canadian Championship final in penalties to second-division side Forge FC on Wednesday night.

The Impact had a busy summer window, bringing in Dani Pereira from Austin, re-signing Dante Sealy and signing Chilean legend Alexis Sánchez. Unfortunately for the Montréal faithful, those signings haven't brought the success and stability they've longed for.

Prince Owusu remains Montréal's talisman, contributing 15 goals and five assists in MLS. The German-born Ghanaian striker missed two games with an injury, but returned to play all 120 minutes in Wednesday's championship match.

Meanwhile, former Boy in Gold Danial Ríos has enjoyed a nice spell of form, with five goal contributions in his last 10 appearances.

Montréal are not mathematically out of the playoff race, but it would take a miracle to see them cross the line. They sit 11 points behind 9th-place New York Red Bulls with only four games to go. A loss or draw to Nashville on Saturday would officially end their 2026 season.

Nashville SC snapshot

It's all but guaranteed that Nashville SC will win the Supporters' Shield; any result in Quebec would be enough to ensure that. The Nashville faithful are enjoying the best season in club history, thanks to shrewd business from the Front Office, great direction from BJ Callaghan and incredible contributions from the squad.

Nashville are also eight points away from breaking the single-season MLS points record. With four games remaining, the Boys in Gold look in prime shape to break Inter Miami's 2024 record of 74 points.

Beyond the records, Nashville's main mission is to enter the playoffs in the best form. Star forward and 2022 MVP Hany Mukhtar continues to perform at an MVP level, scoring six goals and providing an assist in his last five matches.

The other DPs, Sam Surridge and Cristian Espinoza, remain among the league's top goal contributors. The trio has combined for a whopping 70 goal contributions in all competitions.

MLS End of Year awards voting opens today, and Nashville SC are making their pitches for several categories.

In addition to having the second-best attacking output in MLS (behind only Lionel Messi's Inter Miami), Nashville have conceded the fewest goals. The Boys in Gold's incredible defensive record is thanks to the organization and team mentality the coaching staff has instilled.

Though Callaghan often praises the group, Max Woldezi and Jeisson Palacios' defensive contributions have been a huge help in Nashville's historic season. Both center-backs are in the running for Defender of the Year.

Facing an uninspired CF Montréal with practically nothing to play for, Nashville are expected to take all three points. With the Supporters' Shield on the line, Callaghan is also expected to go with his best lineup.
