NASHVILLE, TN – Nashville SC are trading winger Jacob Shaffelburg to Los Angeles FC, sources confirmed to SixOneFive Soccer.
Nashville SC will receive a total of $1 million in General Allocation Money from the trade, receiving $500,000 in 2026 and an additional $500,000 in 2027. They'll also retain a sell-on percentage in a future transfer.
Shaffelburg, 26, joined Nashville on loan initially from Toronto FC in August 2022, excelling on loan in the second half of the season. Nashville made the move permanent at the end of the season for $300,000 in General Allocation Money.
In his four seasons with Music City, Shaffelburg was a crucial piece of Nashville's attack. He made 107 appearances in all competitions, scoring 14 goals and adding 17 assists. Shaffelburg scored a crucial brace against Inter Miami in the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16 and setting up Hany Mukhtar's opening goal in the 2025 US Open Cup final.
In Nashville, Shaffelburg broke out with the Canadian national team, scoring six goals in 31 caps for his country. The Nova Scotia native was a part of their 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup and 2024 Copa América campaigns, and has made a strong push to be included in their 2026 World Cup squad on home soil.
A fan favorite in Music City, Shaffelburg joins an electric LAFC attack that already features superstars Son Heung-min and Dénis Bouanga, set to be one of the top teams in the Western Conference and an MLS Cup contender. LAFC play a transition-heavy style, emphasizing attacking in the open field, which will be a more natural fit for Shaffelburg's electric speed than in Nashville, where he at times struggled to adapt to BJ Callaghan's more possession-focused approach.
Shaffelburg will return to Music City when Los Angeles FC play Nashville at Geodis Park on Sunday, May 17.
