Nashville SC are back on the road this weekend, looking to bounce back from Saturday's loss in St. Louis with a Sunday afternoon matchup against New York City FC. For the latest on their opponent, we're checking in with Hudson River Blue executive editor Andrew Leigh, who provides in-depth coverage of New York City FC.

Ben Wright (SixOneFive Soccer): It feels like it's been an up-and-down season for NYCFC so far. How would you describe the year to date?

Andrew Leigh (Hudson River Blue): They’ve been consistent with their inconsistency. Multiple points of the season felt like they could be the one where things clicked and NYCFC would go and reel off an unbeaten run. Instead, they’ve remained mired in the land of mid.

The best run they’ve had is wins in back-to-back matches, which they’ve done twice; the worst run they’ve had is back-to-back losses, which they’ve done twice. They were in both midseason Cup tournaments but bowed out from both of them early and with relative ease.

Any optimism for playoff qualification and a possible darkhorse playoff run rests on getting an instant return on investment from Nico Fernández Mercau.
