Joe Willis re-signed with Nashville on a one-year deal, and has been exclusively the backup option behind Brian Schwake. He's a key part of the locker room culture and as reliable a reserve 'keeper as there is in MLS.
Dan Lovitz

At 34 years old, Dan Lovitz is still one of the more consistent players in the squad, albeit playing a reduced role in 2026. He's started just 15 of Nashville's 25 matches so far this year, splitting time with Reed Baker-Whiting.
His level hasn't dropped, though, and he's an above-average distributor and solid defensively. A reliable veteran to have in the squad.
Maxwell Woledzi

Maxwell Woledzi has exceeded expectations in his first year in Nashville, quickly looking like one of the premier center backs in MLS. He's defensively solid, and his ability to break pressure on the dribble has been a major plus for Nashville. A core piece of this team for years to come.
Jeisson Palacios

Similarly to Woledzi, Jeisson Palacios looks like one of MLS's elite center backs, and is a core part of one of the best defenses in the league. At 31 years old, he's been used more sparingly, but has been exceptional on the field. He made an unfortunate mistake on the road at Tigres to concede a goal in Nashville's Concacaf Champions Cup semifinal exit, but has otherwise been mistake-free.
Jack Maher
Grade: B-

Jack Maher has found himself as the third-choice center back for Nashville, and he's not able to play the high-tempo, high-pressing style of Palacios or Woledzi, but he's been reliable when called on and keeps the floor high. He's notably worn the captain's armband in several matches and has taken on an important leadership role off the field.
