Key details revealed for Nashville's roster build, flexibility for 2027

On Thursday, Major League Soccer released roster profiles for all 30 clubs. These profiles are a snapshot of each club after the summer transfer window closed on September 2, 2026.

Nashville SC

A few quick points to note:

• Hany Mukhtar's option for 2027 has been triggered. Previously, Mukhtar's guaranteed deal was set to expire at the end of 2026, with a club option for 2027. His option has been picked up, keeping him under contract through December 2027. In 34 appearances in all competitions so far, Mukhtar has 11 goals and seven assists, behind only Cristian Espinoza in total goal contributions.
• Elias Saad and Famara Camara both hit the cap in the Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) range. Saad was confirmed to be a TAM player when he signed, and his purchase option would make him a Designated Player under the current roster rules (his loan ends after the 2027 Sprint Season).
  Camara's TAM status shouldn't be a surprise, either; Nashville paid a reported $2.5 million transfer fee for the 21-year-old, which averages out to $1 million towards his budget charge in each year of his guaranteed deal. Anything over $803,125 requires TAM, so regardless of salary, he's a TAM player.
• Nashville have nine players requiring international roster slots, but only eight slots to use. They're currently getting around this because Warren Madrigal is unavailable on the injured list (this is not the season-ending injury list). When Madrigal returns from his injury, Nashville will need to either move a player off their active roster, or make a move to acquire an additional international roster slot.
• Perhaps most notably, Nashville have $17,667 of General Allocation Money (GAM) left. At the February update, Nashville had $1,581,229 in GAM, mostly funded by the sale of Jonny Pérez to Chivas for $3 million.
  Between adding Elias Saad in the summer window (whose total budget charge is between $803,125 and $1,803,125) and Owen Presthus (who has a guaranteed compensation of $94,216, plus the $50k in GAM sent to the Crew for his loan), Nashville have almost fully maxed out their reserves. Nashville had agreed to a deal with Red Bull New York for striker Roald Mitchell before bringing in Presthus, but the forward opted to go to Viborg in the Danish Superliga.
  This puts Nashville in a tight spot going into the 2027 sprint season. They do have several players coming to the end of their contracts, as well as a few tradable assets. Under Mike Jacobs, Nashville have consistently played it close to keeping their GAM reserves empty, and they have a track record of being fine. It may leave fans a little uneasy to see such little apparent flexibility heading into 2027, though, especially now that there is no expiration date on GAM.

The MLS Players' Association is expected to release its fall salary guide in the upcoming weeks. In combination with MLS's roster profiles, this will provide a mostly complete picture of Nashville's roster.

Total GAM for every MLS club

The Philadelphia Union have the most 2026 GAM available with $4,665,679, followed by Minnesota United ($4,320,451), St. Louis City SC ($4,061,367), and San Jose Earthquakes ($3,685,457).

Inter Miami ($142,300), Nashville SC ($17,667), and Red Bull New York ($0) round out the bottom of league.

It's important to note as of 2025, GAM no longer has an expiration date. Previously, clubs had a certain number of windows in which to spend GAM after it was acquired. Now, it rolls over without limit, meaning that clubs can stockpile GAM to an unlimited amount.

As the most flexible and useful asset for building an MLS roster, clubs with a significant amount of GAM will be able to make the most obvious moves heading into 2027.
